Unspoken suit rules - the tie

The width of one’s suit lapel is often noticeable at first glance. Is it wide, skinny, peak, ect?. Rules change for your body type. A skinnier man can get away with a skinnier lapel, while a larger man should stick with a regular sized lapel.

When it comes to the width of a man’s tie this is another classic debate.  We like to follow the same rules for lapels – a skinny man can pull off a skinny (roughly 2.5-3” wide) tie, while larger and athletically built men alike should stick with the regular tie (roughly 3.5-3.75” wide).

Bonus points if you match the lapel width principle and the tie width in the same outfit.
